Three guys playing awesome music: Eric Buckley, Johnny Nilsen, and Sean Warner are the hosts of Soup du Jour on KUST (Tuesdays 1-3PM). They met one fateful day on the 4th floor of Brady Hall and the rest was history, kind of.
Eric and Sean came to the Fall Activities fair at the precise moment that the KUST booth was rocking some Fitz & The Tantrums, obviously some pretty sweet jams, and decided to sign up. After careful deliberation the duo became a trio and Johnny was added to the lineup.
These guys throw out an impressive roster of artists and are just the kind of dudes KUST is looking to have on air! A sampling of their musical choices include, but is not limited to: M83, Phantogram, The Black Keys, Royal Alberta Advantage, Blitzen Trapper, Peter Bjorn and John, and Jeremy Messersmith.
Where do these fellows find their music you ask? Eric listens to the Current and reads Pitchfork to stay on top of new artists, Johnny claims to have not done any homework all last year, preferring to spend his time reading up on various music blogs (MFR, Music for Ants, EarMilk), while Sean picks up tunes by learning them on musical instruments (bass/piano)!
So they play sweet music on their show, what are they listing to outside of the KUST Studio? Sean has been rocking “the three F’s: Florence, Fitz, and Foster” (referring to Florence + the Machine, Fitz & the Tantrums, and Foster the People). Johnny’s fall tunes have been The Tallest Man On Earth, Bon Iver, and Explosions in the Sky, super chill. Eric has been enjoying the musical styling’s of Blitzen Trapper, Ra Ra Riot and The Rural Alberta Advantage, I assume while he strolls through the lovely UST campus this autumn.
Of course the music is important but we wanted to know these guys on a deeper level so we brought out the big guns:

EB: Sky Blue

Revealing, right? With such broadcasting gifts, what might these gentleman want to do with their lives post-university? Well Eric has set his sights on being a marketing executive who travels the world and, if all else fails, he has a backup plan of being a cowboy. Johnny plans on flying helicopters, preferably in the mountains and Sean is undecided, but upon further questioning he doesn’t want to work at all and would prefer to live comfortably as a trophy husband.
